Obama Memorabilia - A Big Deal

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

31 Club’s main goal is to help our members make money, and we do this trading in antiques, fine art and collectibles. If you are looking for a way to make up for your stock market losses, this is the place to roll up your sleeves and get to work, especially in the next few weeks before the election. So if you haven’t joined with us yet, why not do that now.

Why are the next few weeks important? In previous blogs, I’ve written about the historical significance of this election. I’ve even written that this election might compare, historically, with the election of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. I’m repeating this again, because after last night’s debate, it’s my prediction that Barak Obama will be our new President. In the world of political memorabilia, this is a big deal.

I don’t make my prediction lightly. Obama’s plans for this country are 180 degrees from where I think the country should go, but after tuning in to the debate, it seemed to me that McCain just wasn’t up to the task of selling his plan to a country thirsty for change. Watching the demise of a man who has given so much of his blood, sweat and tears to this country, and whose courage, sacrifice and perseverance I have long admired was a difficult thing. McCain looked tired and used the same tired lines and catch phrases he’s used in the past. Somehow, I was hoping for more.

But, in this country, the majority rules and every man’s vote should count. Part of the beauty of how this country is governed is that it gives a new president four years to lead, and after that time, he can be replaced if the electorate isn’t satisfied. Yes, Obama will be my next President, and I wish him well. He will have the weight of the world on his shoulders, and I ask for God’s wisdom and strength to guard him. My only hope is that our country can become that shining light on the hill.

So, if you didn’t take a truck to the convention to fill up on anything and everything Obama, now there’s only have a few more weeks to buy everything you can find that’s connected to Barak Obama. Everything that pertains to him will increase in value ten fold over the next couple of years. Obama’s signature on almost anything will become a true treasure, and collectors will be searching high and low for these items. Can you find a signed copy of his books? In only a matter of years, it will command thousands of dollars. Just take a look at what the Obey-Giant Obama Posters have already sold for on eBay.

Your parents and your teachers probably told you all your life that timing is everything. Well, they were right, and this is one of those rare moments.

Historical Memorabilia: The Stakes Keep Getting Higher

Friday, September 5th, 2008

In past blogs, I have suggested that you back up the truck and fill it with anything pertaining to this year’s election. With election day only about 2 months away, time is running out to gather what you can now if you plan on cashing in later. With the selection of Sarah Palin as VP, now it isn’t just a pot of gold you’re looking for but all of Fort Knox. Whoever wins, history will be made in this election. Don’t know what Fort Knox is? It’s where all of this country’s gold is stored.

Because I have been so blessed and seen so much over my lifetime, few things really get me very excited anymore. But I can tell you this: The events of this year’s election have caused my heart to really pump. Who needs to watch night time TV programs when this year’s election is splashed across the screen nightly, and it holds more drama than a screenwriter can pen without creating a believability problem? History will be made come this November. Will you have the memorabilia from it?

In a past blog, I wrote that I thought Barack Obama was one of the most appealing candidates to come on the political scene since Ronald Reagan. Although I won’t be voting for him, my opinion hasn’t changed, because our views of the world are still miles apart. However, I do think he believes in everything he’s shared with his audience.

I haven’t written about John McCain yet, but his views are more closely in line with the ones I hold than Obama’s views are.

I figure if Obama wins, it will change politics to a more socialistic environment rather than a capitalistic one, like I personally favor. An Obama win could erase the racial stains this country has had for over two hundred years. That’s something to get excited about, however, if it supresses the individual entrepreneurial effort in this country, it can prove devastating. Either way, I think this election will prove to be one of the greatest historical events in my lifetime.

That old maverick, John McCain startled the world by not selecting who everyone anticipated as his running mate, but a woman that few had ever heard of. Yes, I wanted a woman on the ticket, but Sarah, who? That sentiment only lasted until I learned more about her and then heard her speeches. I do believe a superstar had been born many years ago and finally made it to center stage. Her election alongside John McCain will be a milestone for women in this country.

But, aside from the tangible changes toward progress — electing the country’s first African American President or the first Woman Vice President — in the end, it will be only one party who will lead us across an unknown threshold. Whoever wins will define how that change will shape who and what our nation becomes in the years ahead. What will we change to? Who will we become? The direction this changes takes us might very well prove to be a huge marker in the life of our country, for better or for worse, and it might have the power to seal our fate.

Having said that, I believe the stark difference in the candidates will make the Election of 2008 equal in historical importance to that of George Washington and of Abraham Lincoln. So, load up on memorabilia.

I don’t usually like to end a blog on a sad note, however I cannot end today’s blog without acknowledging the passing of Ralph Kovel. The entire Antique Industry has truly lost a great and passionate friend. We at the 31 Club, send our condolences to the entire Kovel family and offer up our prayers for each one of them during this time in their lives. We ask our club members to remember Ralph Kovel and the Kovel family in their prayers, as well.

This Year’s Political Memorabilia: WOW! WOW! WOW!

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

With the nomination of Governor Sarah Palin as VP on the Republican ticket, now we have a real election with definite choices. But, what’s important to us is — can we make money with it? Yes, we can. Regardless of whom you’re rooting for. You see, before today, there was only one party that could make history, but now, which ever party wins, history will be made. I believe this election will rate within the top five great elections of all times. Right up there with Washington, Lincoln and Kennedy. In the world of Political Memorabilia, that means mega bucks.Yesterday’s events have heightened the possibility of for us.

Since the Primaries began, I’ve been writing about getting out there and stocking up on the free memorabilia generated from this election, from both parties. Today, I almost want to command you to go out there and find posters, pins, photographs, ribbons and anything else that represents this election. Go to rallies, town hall meeting, debates, party headquarters and anywhere else you think of where material from this election might be hiding. Those who started early during the Primaries and were able to get their items signed now have a real treasure in their hands.

November is right around the corner, and time is running out for you to acquire these items. What are you waiting for? Items are already escalating in price on eBay and other auctions. You can check this out by going to eBay and doing a word search for McCain, then Obama, and then Palin. Then check the completed sales prices.

Pick up some items while they’re still free. Or, purchase a real treasure at an auction for a good price now, because I don’t think we’ve seen anything yet. Pins, posters and other items from this historic election, featuring Obama and Biden plus McCain and Palin will likely bring in thousands upon thousands just a few years from now.

My Dad, God bless him, told me once, “If you see your lucky star be sure to grab hold and never let it go.” Well this election can be a lucky star for anyone who takes advantage of this opportunity. I am 67 years old, and in my lifetime, there has never been an opportunity like this one. I challenge you to look through price guides and see the prices people are paying for political memorabilia that has very little historic value. Memorabilia from this election will rate up there with the best of the best.

Do you remember the auction of Kennedy’s personal affects? His desk, I think, brought several hundred thousand dollars and then other offerings tripled and quadrupled their estimated values. Kennedy’s belongings will nowhere match the value of the belongings of winners of today’s candidates in this election.

When you discover where you can either buy or get these free collectibles, try to get more than one. You’ll find the value will have greatly increased shortly after the election, and you can cash in on some short term, but and save some items to cash in long term, and some to pass down to your children.
